Basketball tips off and soccer hosts playoffs

A busy weekend is in store for Yavapai College athletics as both men’s and women’s basketball teams open their seasons and YC soccer hosts North Idaho College for the right to go to the NJCAA National Tournament.

Men’s Basketball

On Friday, men’s basketball will entertain the Grand Canyon University JV squad. Third-year head coach Howard Brown’s team had an impressive 20-10 season a year ago narrowly missing the ACCAC playoffs. Friday night’s game will tip-off at 7:00 PM. On Saturday, YC will play Tierra del Sol, a semi-pro team from Phoenix. That contest will also begin at 7:00 PM. Both games will be played in the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team tips off their season on the road on Friday. YC had an outstanding 25-7 record last year and lost in the NJCAA Region I Championship Game. The lady hoopsters will play against College of Eastern Utah in the Southern Utah University JC Classic in Cedar City, UT tipping off at 3:15 PM. On Saturday, YC will play against Colorado Northwestern College beginning at 2:15 PM.

Soccer

On Saturday, the #2 ranked Roughrider soccer team entertains North Idaho College in the NJCAA West District Championship at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. The game is a rematch of last year’s West finals played in Coeur d’Alene, ID in which YC won 2-0. The victor in Saturday’s match will earn a berth to the NJCAA National Tournament in Tyler, TX November 15-18. Saturday’s match will kick-off at 12:00 PM.
