Soccer Takes Home Top Honors
4 players, 1 goalkeeper and 1 coach earn awards
The Roughrider soccer team garnered the top awards today in the individual achievements handed out by the conference at the annual end of the season ACCAC coach’s meeting. YC took home honors for Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year and Coach of the Year. In addition, 4 Yavapai kickers were named to the All-ACCAC/Region I 1st Team.
Sophomore midfielder Irving Garcia earned the most votes ever by any ACCAC/Region I nominated player as he was voted 2007 ACCAC/Region I Player of the Year. For the 13th time in his Hall of Fame career, Head Coach Mike Pantalione was named ACCAC/Region I Coach of the Year. And with 8 shutouts this season, freshman Sam Hayden was name ACCAC/Region I Goalkeeper of the Year.
In addition to Garcia and Hayden being named to the all-conference/region team, sophomore midfielders Denton Brown and Vincent Fimbrez also gained the award. Garcia earned the most votes by any Roughrider player with Brown netting the second most votes for YC followed by Fimbrez then Hayden.
The 2007 ACCAC Champions begin the NJCAA Region I Play-offs on Wednesday at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott against an opponent yet to be determined. That match will begin at 6:00 PM.
