Soccer Closes the Regular Season With a Victory
In 19 years, YC has compiled 29 one game losing streaks. In their history, they have never lost 2 games in a row.
Yavapai College Soccer concluded the ACCAC regular season with a 4-0 blanking of the South Mountain Community College Cougars tonight at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. YC finishes the season with an 18-2-0 overall record and 17-1-0 in conference play. Yavapai sewed up their 19th league title 4 games ago and now awaits their opponent in the first round of the NJCAA Region I Play-offs.
Francis Khamis owned the first half for the Roughriders as he scored in the 21st minute unassisted and in the 39th minute on a pass from Justin Meram to lead YC to a 2-0 halftime lead. Yavapai was held scoreless until the 80th minute of regulation as Elhadj Sy found the back of the net unassisted. Shortly thereafter in the 81st minute, Dallas Rusch-Michener found a streaking Jay Heller to finalize the scoring on the night and give the Roughrider program their 411th all-time victory. Goalkeepers Sam Hayden and Ivan Dizdar combined for Yavapai’s 8th shutout of the 2007 season.
YC begins the NJCAA Region I Play-offs at home on Wednesday, October 24th against an opponent yet to be determined. The challenger will be decided on Monday evening in the first round of the tournament featuring the 4th and 5th place teams of the ACCAC final standings. Wednesday evening’s match will begin at 6:00 PM with the winner moving on to the Regional Championship Game which will be played on Saturday, October 27th.
