ACCAC Regular Season Champs!!!

Rudy Duarte and Irving Garcia, both Yuma natives, have big nights in front of home crowd

For 18 consecutive years, YC soccer has owned the ACCAC title…make that 19 straight years! Head Coach Mike Pantalione’s group recorded a 3-0 victory over Arizona Western College in Yuma tonight to lay claim to the championship outright. The honor gives the Roughriders home matches throughout NJCAA Region I Play-off action. With the District Play-offs being played this year at an Arizona site, YC could host as many as 3 play-off matches as long as they remain unbeaten in post-season play.

Scoring started very early for Yavapai on this night. 43 seconds into the match, Irving Garcia crossed the ball to Colby Swensen who buried the ball into the goal with a header at point blank range. The score remained 1-0 until the 67th minute as Rudy Duarte found the net on a ball from Pavel Panchenko and in the 84th minute Francis Khamis received a pass from Duarte to conclude the scoring on the night.

With the assist tonight, Duarte ties the Yavapai College all-time assist record with 27 career assists. He ties fellow Yuma native Obed Becerra for the honor.

Goalkeeper Sam Hayden played all 90 minutes to record the team’s 7th shutout of the year.

YC returns to the field on Saturday, October 13th at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott to entertain the Coyotes from Chandler/Gilbert Community College. In their first meeting of the year, Yavapai blanked CGCC 2-0 to record the program’s 400th win. Saturday night’s kick-off will be at 6:00 PM.
