Roughriders Tame The Cougars

5 different players find the back of the net

Playing on a warm, muggy afternoon in Phoenix, the #2 ranked Roughrider soccer team came away with a 5-2 victory over South Mountain Community College to remain unbeaten in ACCAC play. YC is now 9-0 in the conference and atop the league standings.

Yavapai struck first on the Cougars in the 15th minute of play with Rudy Duarte kicking one in on a ball from Camilo Valencia. Shortly thereafter in the 24th minute, Isaias Hernandez scored with Francis Khamis getting the assist. Right before halftime, SMCC scored to cut the defecit in half and the Riders went into intermission with a 2-1 lead.

Knocking in the first 3 goals of the second half, YC pulled away to cruise to the victory. Goal scorers in the final frame was: Vincent Fimbrez/assist Isaias Hernandez (68th minute); Francis Khamis/assist Irving Garcia (72nd minute); Colby Swensen/assist Daniel Celario (87th minute). South Mountain added a goal in the closing minutes of the match to finalize the scoring.

Yavapai plays the second leg of this 3 game road swing on Wednesday, September 26th at Mesa Community College. Kick-off will be at 6:00 PM. Before returning home, YC will play at Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday, September 29th.
