YC Improves Their Hold On First Place

Evening highlighted with program’s 400th victory

On this historic night, Hall of Fame head coach Mike Pantalione and the celebrated Yavapai College soccer program recorded their 400th career victory with a 2-0 score over Chandler/Gilbert Community College. YC is now 6-0-0 in ACCAC play and 7-1-0 overall and a #3 ranking in the NJCAA.

In the 25th minute of play, freshman Chris Hunter received an assist from sophomore Rudy Duarte to begin the scoring and lead the Roughriders into halftime with a 1-0 margin. Later in the second half sophomore Colby Swensen hit the back of the net at the 75th minute on a ball from sophomore Irving Garcia to conclude the scoring and put the game on ice. Freshman Sam Hayden played all 90 minutes in goal to record the shutout

YC sits atop the ACCAC standings with an udefeated record. Last week’s league leader, Pima Community College dropped a match to Mesa Community College, 3-2, this past Wednesday to fall into second place.

On a rare Monday evening match, the YC kickers travel to Scottsdale Community College for an ACCAC event with kick-off slated for 6:00 PM. On Wednesday, September 19th, #1 Yavapai and #2 Pima will face off at the Prescott Valley Amphitheater (Robert and Nace) beginning at 6:00 PM.
