Roughriders not only battles GCC, but 100+ degree weather
The Roughriders remained unbeaten in ACCAC play with a 5-2 pounding of the Gauchos from Glendale Community College on Saturday afternoon in Glendale. Freshman Pavel Panchenko led the way with 2 assists and a goal to help YC remain atop the conference standings at 4-0 and a 5-1 overall record.
The scoring started early for the Riders as freshman Francis Khamis hit the back of the net on a pass from Panchenko in the 6th minute of play. Freshman Justin Meram got into the scoring act in the 13th minute of play off yet another assist from Panchenko.
Yavapai went into intermission with a 2-0 lead and cruised in the second half with no real threat from the Gauchos. YC chipped in three more goals after the half with Panchenko scoring in the 56th minute (assist Camilo Valencia), Vincent Fimbrez in the 62nd minute (assist Isaias Hernandez) and Valencia knocking one in unassisted in the 73rd minute of regulation.
With the victory, Yavapai soccer now has 398 victories in their storied history and it marks the 40th victory over Glendale Community College, which is the most wins YC has over any particular opponent.
Conference play resumes on Wednesday, September 12th as the Matadors from Arizona Western College comes to town. The match will begin at 6:00 PM and will be played at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott.
